We two couples stayed two nights in the Magnolia room and Seaside room on our way back to Colorado from a family visit in south Texas. It was midweek and we were the only ones there. They were getting ready for a full house Murder Mystery weekend the next night after we left. I just found the Tarlton House on the Internet, and the website had lots of pictures, so we picked our rooms and reserved them online. We enjoyed the first night so much we stayed another day. We sat on the front porch and relaxed like the old days. Hillsboro is right on I-35 and has an outlet mall which we took advantage of. The civil war history museum at Hill College was excellent. If you like music, go to the Texas Musicians Museum. I had no idea so many of the famous musicians were Texans. Breakfast the first morning was asparagus quiche and ham, and our second day was French toast and sausage. Great food both days! David, the innkeeper, sat and talked with us after breakfast, which we enjoyed alot. He showed us all the rooms, and each one is different. Don't book a room on the third floor unless you can climb stairs. We were on the second floor, and our rooms had those high ceilings and wood trim everywhere that reminded you of old-fashioned luxury days of bustles and bonnets and horse-drawn carriages. For us (retired seniors), Hillsboro had lots of history and we just slowed down and relaxed. If you want night life and lots of entertainment, stay in Austin or Dallas, cause this is way different! We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Texas!
